River Song Forest School in Bishop, CA, offers a unique opportunity to grow as an educator, guiding young children aged 2.5-6 through the wonders of the natural world every day. We are seeking educators commited to fostering curiosity, resilience, and a deep connection to our environment in the children of our community. 
This is a wonderful opportunity for parents of young children. 

There are two positions currently available:

 

Lead Preschool Teacher

  • A total of 20 teaching hours per week along with about 6 hours prep time.
  • Opportunity for more hours.
  • Compensation will depend on experience. 

 


Assistant Teacher

  • A total of 20 teaching hours per week along with 2 hours prep time.
  • Compensation will depend on experience. 

 

Qualities we value in our Lead Teachers:

At River Song Forest School, we are seeking teachers who are dedicated to the health and well-being of our children and the greater community. Ideal candidates will have experience working with children aged 2.5-6 and a strong understanding of early childhood development.

We value a commitment to continuous learning and growth as an early childhood educator, alongside a knowledge of, or keen interest in, nature-based learning, Waldorf and Montessori education principles. It's crucial for our team members to confidently hold boundaries for children, ensuring a safe and respectful learning environment.

You should be comfortable communicating effectively with children, parents, other teachers, and the general public. We also look for the ability to plan and lead age-appropriate crafts, engaging circle time songs and movement, along with captivating stories. Strong situational awareness, the ability to recognize hazards, and excellent risk assessment skills are paramount.

Our new teacher will posess naturalist knowledge and skills and must be comfortable being outdoors in all weather conditions, in all seasons, getting dirty, and sitting on the ground. A commitment to the importance of nature connection for people of all ages is essential.
River Song is dedicated to a toxin free environment, with an emphasis on natural materials. We kindly ask that our teachers don't use heavily perfumed detergents.

Qualities we look for in our Assistant Teachers:

At River Song Forest School, we are seeking Assistant Teachers who are dedicated to the health and well-being of our children and the greater community. Ideal candidates will have experience working with children and an appreciation for the natural world. 
The Assistant Teacher will provide support to the Lead Teacher in holding boundaries for children and communicating effectively with parents and the general public. While the Lead Teacher will consistently plan and lead circle time, crafts, and story, there will be occasions when the Assistant is asked to fill in lead roles temporarily. 

The assistant will be open to guidance and mentorship from Lead Teachers in holding boundaries, parent/child/public interactions, hazard and risk assessment, along with practicing Waldorf and Montessori teaching principles.
